Post Let’s talk about an Australian Bodysurfing Movie

I am sure we could do it, but we need a plan. I don’t even own a water camera but I know many people do and they dream of making a movie just like me.

Let’s start by working out some guidelines, I spoke to someone this morning that suggested we film it in 16 x 9 HD Digital.

It is important that we all brain storm it and come up with as many ideas as we can with a view to produce a list of criteria to be distributed to all interested bodysurfers.

Great idea but you will find everyone wants to be in it but only the dedicated few will outlay thier time and effort and money to buy the equipment and put it all together.
I gather the 16X9 will give you the zoom capability to film from the shore as water proof units are just too expensive.I gether we all participate in our area's where we body surf and supply our best footage. Sadly my water proof camera does not have the zoom capabilities but you are all ready more than half way there when in the water.I have some great action movie shots but my computer does not want to handle all the information when it is streaming.I have an old computer that works very well but i need to outlay some serious money to get a newer computer with the memory and technology that will supply me the finished product. For me its about the financial outlay, as i want to film people but i have other priorities!!

Fair dinkum, you two need to get a room!!!!!

"Teamwork creates success' indeed.

I know nought about camera's and computers, but here's a suggestion.

1. Find out how much a decent camera would cost.
2. Set up a structure based around this forum that would provide ability to procure same. Not sure how that would work, but I'm sure Greg may have some ideas. My thought would be to have this site have the ownership of the project.
3. Canvass Forum members for $$ contributions to buy it. Happy to contribute!Ownership remains that of bodysurfers.com.au
4. If successful, camera can be loaned to various members around the country to provide footage.
5. Insurance, Delivery etc are mere details if the will is there.

Just a thought, may not be practical, but it's now up the flag for anyone to salute........

Hey Longy,

I really like your idea, we just need some more interest I guess.

I don't need to get a room with Rashie :? He is just very keen to see everything progress, and I am keen to provide this website and forum for all Australian Bodysurfers.

I would like to hear some more comments and suggestions . . . .

BTW: this is http://www.bodysurfers.info

So far getting some interesting film at City Beach on the new camera with every good surf day, even downloading it onto another computer a fellow body surfer to keep safe!Taking photos as well.
I have allot more respect for surf photographers and film makers as trying to be in the right location at the right time and take a photo at the correct second is challenging especially when with City Beach there is never a single location to catch the action, as the waves sweep in across 30 to 40 metre area from the groyne and up to 20 metres out when a suitable size.
This weekend we have some very nice waves coming in but the sand bank is just not shallow enough so the waves are very full and there is some effort required to stay on.
