Caves Beach, Bodysurfing Break NSW Central Coast Australia

caves beach bodysurfer Shane K

Swansea, NSW Australia

  • Tide: Best bodysurfing conditions are normally going off on Low tide
  • Wind: Blowing in from the North West is most suitable
  • Swell: A pumping South East swell is ideal
  • Notes: Best when it’s 4-6 foot S or SE swell with a NW, W, or SW wind and at low tide.

Break Information

Is a right-hander off the rocks (not too dangerous, as long as you don’t go straight!), with lefts and rights a little farther up the beach (with no rocks). The closest town to Caves Beach is Swansea , which is actually at the southern end of Newcastle area but is often included in the Central Coast.

Best when it’s 4-6 foot S or SE swell with a NW, W, or SW wind and at low tide. At 6 foot it will still break well up to high tide (but not a big high tide). Smaller waves and different swell angles work very well 50 – 150 metres further North up the beach. It is a very peaky and ‘tubey’ beach, which suits bodysurfers perfectly. There is a Surf Club only about 50 metres North from my pinpointed break spot, so it’s okay if you bring your family along in the summer time.
